When you seek in-person services:
In order to provide effective services, we will require some personal information provided with your consent when you come to the office. Your family’s confidentiality is our utmost concern. We adhere to federal and provincial laws concerning the privacy of your personal information. When you seek services through Resourceful Me Art Therapy, any information that you share will be kept confidential. You will receive a copy of our complete privacy policy during our first meeting.
Limits to Confidentiality
There are rare but significant times when psychotherapists are legally and ethically required to break confidentiality.
In such circumstances we only disclose the minimum amount of information necessary to meet legal and ethical guidelines. If this occurs, and it is safe for me to do so, I will inform you of any breaches of your family’s confidentiality as soon as possible.
Below are situations in which I am required to release information to a necessary entity:
- I am legally obligated to share information with a third party when I have concerns that an individual is at risk of seriously harming themselves or someone else.
- I am legally obligated to report actual or suspected cases of child abuse (including neglect or physical, emotional or sexual abuse) for any child under the age of 18 to the Children’s Aid Society (CAS) or for any dependent/elder adult.
- I am legally obligated to report sexual abuse by a regulated health care professional (to the regulating body of that professional).
- I am legally obligated to comply with provincial and federal legal requests/subpoenas for client information.
Privacy Commitment
Resourceful Me Art Therapy is committed to collecting, using, and disclosing personal information responsibly and only to the extent necessary for the services we provide. We will not release or share your personal information without your knowledge or written permission (excluding the situations listed above).
